A group of young filmmakers in the Bronx has been chosen as a semifinalist for the 2015 New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards.
Ghetto Film School in Mott Haven has made movies in the borough, as well as around the world. Industry heavyweights sit on the school's leadership board, and there's even a campus in Los Angeles.
Winning the award would cap off an exciting time for the school. Students just returned from a trip to Spain where they shot a documentary.
Ten semifinalists were chosen, and Ghetto Film School is the only one from the Bronx. The top prize is $60,000 worth of prizes and tuition scholarships.
