While the Bronx landlord accused of stabbing his tenant to death appeared in court Thursday, the victim’s family rallied for justice.
Taha Mahran is charged with murder and manslaughter for allegedly stabbing his tenant Zakir Khan over an apparent rent dispute outside of their Logan Avenue apartment building in February.
Police say Khan was stabbed multiple times while his 12-year-old son watched helplessly. They add that Mahran then walked to the 45th Precinct with a bloody shirt and confessed to the stabbing over a year of unpaid rent.
The relatives of Khan were chanting outside of the Bronx Hall of Justice Thursday, calling for the “maximum punishment” for Mahran.
Khan’s family say they have been supported by the local Bangladeshi community in mourning their son’s loss.
Mahran is being held without bail and is due in court again on Sept. 12.
