The Bronx man accused of strangling his 2-month-old son to death and burying his body in the woods underwent a psychiatric evaluation at Jacobi Medical Center on Monday.
Police say 51-year-old Jose Feliciano was arrested Saturday night, hours after the 2-month-old child's body was found in the woods in upstate New York.
They say Feliciano is being charged with two counts of murder and manslaughter after police found the remains of his son, Mason Whyte, in the woods behind an inn in Dutchess County. Investigators say the baby had been choked to death on Dec. 10.
Investigators say Feliciano smothered the boy in his home because he wouldn't stop crying. Surveillance video allegedly shows the father carrying the baby out of his Bogart Avenue apartment in a duffle bag.
Feliciano and his 31-year-old girlfriend allegedly drove the body almost 50 miles upstate to get rid of the remains. Police found the body Saturday afternoon and arrested Feliciano nine hours later in the Bronx.
Police say his girlfriend has not been arrested.
