Bronx residents are using art to spark conversation about mental health.
People of all ages painted murals at the Andrew Freedman House on the Grand Concourse.
The initiative is part of the City Health Department's Mural Arts Project that has expanded to add three new mental health murals. Over the course of several months, residents with mental health conditions joined forces with local artists to create designs they hope will ultimately remove stigmas attached to their diseases.
The project also goes along with First Lady Chirlane McCray's Thrive NYC Initiative, which is designed to improve mental health treatment and awareness in New York City.
