A Bronx school will become the first in the state to adopt the governor's solar energy initiative.
The New York Institute for Special Education announced an agreement Tuesday to install solar panels.
They will buy the panels through an agreement with Solarcity, a partnership under Gov. Andrew Cuomo's K-Solar program.
The panels could be up and running as early as the spring.
In addition to saving energy costs and going green, the state will train the school's teachers to deliver lessons on solar energy to their students.
State officials expect the program to eventually save as much energy as taking 2,000 cars off the roads.
