A Bronx teacher thought she would be making an announcement about her scholarship fund to students Friday but received a surprise instead.
Appearing before a group of eighth-graders at the school she had once attended, Dr. Pat Jordan was told that she was among five teachers across the country chosen to be inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame this year.
Students and faculty, who were in on the surprise, cheered the announcement by a hall of fame official.
Jordan was raised in the Melrose Projects and has a reputation as a supportive, caring teacher, officials say.
Along with the other selected teachers, Jordan will head to Washington, D.C. in May for an official induction and a possible chance at meeting the president.
