Members of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers came together Sunday in support of a cab driver from the Bronx who had his thumb cut off while on the job.
As News 12 reported, the incident happened on Nov. 19 when two teenagers tried getting into the cab driver's car while he was driving passengers.
After the driver confronted the suspects, police say one of them slashed one of the passengers in the back and also severed the cab drivers thumb.
While the two teens have been arrested and charged with felony assault, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon, federation members say they should be punished to the full extent of the law.
"These kids committed an adult crime and they should pay for an adult crime," says Fernando Mateo, of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. "What they did was unacceptable."
Police say that before attacking the cab driver, the suspects also assaulted a bodega employee on East 198th Street and the Grand Concourse.
