October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and residents held a candlelight vigil Wednesday night to honor survivors.
Organizers say getting people together in an event like this is important in the fight to end domestic violence.
"We all believe that domestic violence is wrong and needs more publicity," Captain Julie Morrill says. "We need to talk about it more, because it's not a secret. It's not something you should fight alone. It's something we can work on together."
The ceremony was organized by Police Service Area 8 outside of the Castle Hill houses.
