Two women are behind bars for their alleged roles in a major heroin-trafficking scheme in the Bronx.
According to authorities, 44 pounds of heroin with a street value of $5 million was seized from inside a van that the women had parked in a Morris Avenue lot.
Police say 29-year-old Carmen Garcia and 25-year-old Rose Vasquez had been followed from a suspected heroin packaging location on Creston Avenue and 180th Street.
The drug bust was the culmination of a long-term joint investigation by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, the NYPD, the Drug Enforcement Agency and state police.
