The students at Castle Hill Middle School 127 took part in their annual cancer walk Friday.
The packed Castle Hill playground was decorated by students, who made signs and decorated the hallways. They also planned the program with the help of school staff.
The event first started off as a breast cancer walk, but expanded to all types of cancers. The students wore different colors to represent the cancer they are bringing awareness to.
School officials are hoping students learn teamwork and what it means to support and give back to their community.
"There's people suffering from cancer, dying from cancer. We just want to show love and support to them," said student Amadou Ndieye.
Students also collected donations to give to the American Cancer Society. This is their seventh year hosting the event.
