A Castle Hill community is fighting for increased safety in their park after a teenager was attacked while walking home in June month.
On Tuesday evening, about 100 people walked down to Pugsley Creek Park for a candlelight vigil for 19-year-old Christian Negron. He was attacked in the park by seven children while walking home.
Ten days after the attack, Negron was found unconscious in his home and died about a week later.
Those in attendance at the vigil sang songs and read poetry in Negron's honor. They say the attack could have been prevented if only more police were walking through the parks than driving past them.
While his cause of death has not yet been determined, his family and friends want to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else.
They say they want cameras and more of a police presence to ensure everyone's safety.
An autopsy will be performed next week to determine Negron's cause of death.
Community Board 9 will meet with local officers to prevent future incidents from happening.
