Two century-old businesses are celebrating Bronx Week.
Teitel Brothers is a business built on decades of traditional Italian treats.
It has been making its mark in the borough since around 1915.
News 12 spoke with Gilbert Teitel, the second-generation owner, to discuss how it all started.
"My father and my uncle came from Europe, Austria...And they heard about Arthur Avenue, and they gave it a shot," said Teitel.
Teitel now works alongside his children and grandkids to keep the business running.
Teitel Brothers specializes in Italian goods - straight from Italy.
"We have one brand that comes from Sicily. We have another brand of olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, that comes from Luca," said Teitel.
It keeps customers returning, like Rosa Pisani, who lives in West Harrison but comes back once a month just to shop there.
"Everything we used to make in Italy with my parents, my mother, it's the same thing over here. I can't find the anything that we used to make by hand in Italy. But, I can find them over here," said Pisani, who has been a customer for over 60 years.
Just a short walk around the corner is Egidio Pastry Shop that has been around since 1912.
"The business is still running the same way. We make the same recipe. We follow the same thing, around the holidays," said Maria Carmela Lucciola, owner of Egidio Pastry Shop.
Lucciola bought the business back in the 1980s, and has been serving up all the treats that will make you break your diet - including their cannolis.
"They're very light. And the most important thing, they don't get soggy...The cream is not very sweet, and they call them 'holy cannoli,'" said Lucciola.
Both owners tell News 12 they hope their businesses last another 100 years - keeping the same traditions since the beginning.
