The Red Cross is wrapping up its aid to residents and businesses affected by the water main break that submerged part of Bedford Park on Dec. 16.
Officials say the
water main that erupted was from the 1890s. It flooded businesses, cars and apartments - spanning several blocks along Webster Avenue.
Sidewalks in the area are still muddy. Multiple businesses along the block are still not open.
A barbershop on the corner of
Botanical Square told News 12 that they still have no lights, and their floors have water damage.
The residential building at 2993 Botanical Square has heat and light restored but tenants say they haven't had gas for the past 13 days.
The Red Cross has been on site handing out meals to those affected.
“This was unfortunate because it happened during the holidays…The Red Cross was here to try to bring a little bit more comfort to a rough holiday season for some of these families," said Red Cross manager Stathis Verras.
