Chirlane McCray, the wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio, visited the Bronx Friday to focus on a new program designed to help diagnose mental health issues.
Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an eight-hour program that teaches participants about risk factors and warning signs of mental health conditions.
It is tailored primarily to detect issues in children aged 12 to 18.
The Bronx has higher levels of serious psychological distress than other parts of the city, according to experts.
The program first started in 2008 and has trained thousands of people.
