People celebrated Mexican traditions Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Bronx.
The event featured traditional folk dancing, singing and food.
Organizers say the event has been going on for 16 years, and the goal is to help old and new generations get in touch with their Mexican culture.
"Recently, in the past few years I've noticed that it's getting hard for people to be interested, like the new generation is more interested in doing other things than coming and spending hours of practice to make sure that they learn about culture.," said Victor Pren, organizer of the event.
The event was free, except for the food. Organizers say the money goes toward funding similar events in the future.
Organizers say the event was not only open to those who have Mexican heritage, but to anyone with an open mind.
