Another baseball stadium is set to open as a COVID-19 vaccination hub.
Starting on Wednesday, Citi Field will serve Queens residents, food service workers and Taxi and Limousine Commission drivers.
The city is operating Citi Field, and the state is running Yankee Stadium. However, unlike Yankee Stadium, you can’t make an appointment in person at Citi Field--you have to go through the city’s website.
Many say this is causing issues and that the website is not showing available appointments.
TLC says there are nearly 200,000 professional drivers in New York City, and they’re confident TLC-licensed drivers will get the vaccine.
Fernando Mateo, who is running for mayor, is also the spokesperson for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers. He says he couldn’t find any available appointments online.
“Get places where drivers can go to, drive-thru, get vaccinated, and keep it moving. That’s how this works and it works efficiently and effectively. If only they would allow us to get suggestions that worked, maybe things would work a lot better,” said Mateo.
The city hopes to have Citi Field operate 24/7. Last month, the mayor’s office said it hopes to vaccinate 5,000 to 7,000 New Yorkers daily.
