The City Council met on Friday to learn more about concerning reports on incarcerated youth education.

Lawmakers shared that they have received multiple reports that cite staffing shortages causing students to miss classes. Reports also show emergency lock-ins that stopped classes for a few hours, which later turned into students missing classes for days at a time.

City Council members say that quality educational programs can help to create better futures for detained students.

The Department of Correction claims that teaching continues after the lockdowns, but the City Council has refuted those claims.
