City and state officials believe New York CIty is ready to get people back to work, as phase one of reopening starts today.
With thousands of people expected to head back to work, the city is making sure the subways are also good to go.
The MTA will be placing signs at subway stations across the city as a reminder to keep a safe social distance. There are still questions on how social distancing will be possible during rush hour, as even more New Yorkers are expected to start using public transit today.
However, since the pandemic hit, the MTA has tried multiple ways to make sure subways are properly being disinfected. As of now, overnight cleaning is still something the city is committed to. News 12 is told the city will also be distributing more than 1 million masks and 25,000 gallons of sanitizer to the MTA, which will be available for passengers.
Riders will still be required to wear a mask when riding the train or bus.
In addition, as part of phase one retail stores will offer curbside service, in store pick-ups or drop off options. This means clothing stores, electronics and appliance stores, general merchandise stores and many others will be reopening. However, people will not be allowed to browse inside just yet.
Construction, wholesale trade and agriculture will also resume following strict guidelines.
