One popular destination for Mother’s Day in the Bronx had some issues with holiday traffic Sunday.

City Island is a preferred location for many to have their Mother's Day celebrations, but getting on and off the island tends to be a traffic nightmare during holidays.

City Island is no stranger to traffic issues. Traffic delays engulfed City Island after a car accident left six people injured last April. Last Thursday, road work had cars backed up for miles.

Traffic has also been so bad on holidays in the past that it's caused some city island visitors to turn around.

“We've had people who turn around. They give a courtesy call saying there was just a little too much traffic, we're turning back,” said restaurant owner, John Mandy.

For this Mother’s Day weekend, some customers say they came early to avoid traffic.

The NYPD helped direct traffic this weekend so that moms could enjoy the day.
