People in City Island are fighting for a historic shipyard that has become a staple of the area.
The shipyard was owned by the Rodstrum family for close to seven decades. It was sold three years ago and leased back to the City Island family, but that lease ends in July.
A crane company has now tried to step in to seek a permit for the site.
Dozens came out to sign a petition to "stop the cranes."
"We are going to fight here on City Island," says Rabia Graney. "We come together when it really matters and it really matters now."
The "Stop the Crane" petition has received over 130 signatures but residents are hoping more people will take action.
While the city's Department of City Planning cannot restrict or prevent property sales, they tell News 12 that if a developer wanted to build something beyond what was allowed by the special district's zoning, a change would require a full public review process.
