Attendees packed the Bronx County Courthouse Thursday to learn more about and voice their opinions on plans to rezone a span of Jerome Avenue.
The Department of City Planning said in its presentation that it aims to revitalize a 2-mile stretch of Jerome Avenue, bringing to it affordable housing and commercial and green spaces.
Many people who showed up to comment on the plan said residents are worried about being pushed out of the community through gentrification.
The plan was approved by community boards 4, 5 and 7, but grassroots organizations are urging Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to say no to them.
If Diaz Jr. does say yes, the plans would still need to go before a city committee, which would happen in the spring.
The last time Jerome Avenue was rezoned was in 1968.
