Councilman Ritchie Torres warned the public Monday about what he says is an elaborate scam to defraud the public after the killing of Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz.
He says Reginald Gregg, who also goes by R.A. Gregg, convinced Guzman-Feliz’s mother to sign a letter giving him permission to act on behalf of her family.
"This is horrible," says Lesandra Guzman-Feliz. "The whole situation is a horror story."
Torres says no money was collected on behalf of Guzman-Feliz's family, but believes they are among many victims allegedly duped by Gregg.
Gregg lists himself as both head of the New York City Council Community Affairs Bureau and the New York state Community Affairs Bureau, which Torres says aren’t real government agencies.
The councilman claims that to join Gregg's organization, membership fees topped more than $500 with the promise of shields, certificates, car plaques and other elaborate incentives.
Officials say R.A. Gregg is now being investigated by both the city and the state. Torres says Gregg has also been sent cease and desist letters.
News 12 The Bronx reached out to Gregg for comment on the allegations.
