The Mexican Coalition held a meeting Friday at the Immaculate Conception Parish to discuss ways that Bronx residents could help victims of this week's powerful earthquake in Mexico.
A number of ideas were presented at the meeting, including a benefit concert that will take place at the end of October. Organizers say an effort is underway to get major Mexican stars to participate to raise money and help families who lost their homes.
This Sunday, volunteers will be collecting supplies outside the church to send to Mexico. They're asking people to donate camping supplies so those without homes have a place to stay -- as shelter fill up -- and buildings are repaired and reconstructed. They will also collect medical supplies.
Organizers say they also plan to donate some of the supplies gathered and cash to people affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
