We knew this day would arrive sooner than later and it did not disappoint if you love winter weather!

If you don't, today was probably not your favorite weather day in recent memory.

Most snow showers were fairly brief and light today, but there were a few quick heavier ones across parts of the east end of Long Island this afternoon.

It still feels like the 20s to low 30s at best with a gusty westerly wind that will only drop into the 20 to 30 mph range this evening. That is still an improvement from some isolated 40 to 60 mph gusts across Long Island earlier today. Those gusts led to scattered wind damage and some isolated power outages. While a few additional power outages cannot be ruled out, the wind does improve a bit overnight and into early Wednesday.

The rest of the week will feel better during the day than today felt, but you will still want a coat. The mornings will still be cold, too with most morning lows over the next few days in the low to mid 30s. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s to mid-50s for the foreseeable future.

Next rain chances, other than a brief rain shower tomorrow, will be scattered rain showers throughout the day on Sunday. There are no significant snow chances in sight...for now.

TONIGHT: Dress warmly! Partly to mostly cloudy. A few more flurries cannot be ruled out, but most of the snow shower activity is over. The wind drops a bit overnight, but gusts can still reach around 30 mph. It will feel like the 20s into Wednesday morning with actual low temperatures around the mid-30s across most of Long Island.

WEDNESDAY: Mainly cloudy with a few hints of sun possible. A stray shower cannot be ruled out mostly in the form of rain. It will not feel as cold as Tuesday, but still chilly. Highs around 50 degrees will feel like the 40s with a west-southwest wind around 10 to 20 mph with some gusts near 30 mph still. Lows near 40 degrees.

FRIDAY: Sun and some clouds. Breezy. Highs around 51 degrees. Lows near 32 degrees.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers. Highs around 55 degrees. Lows near 40 degrees.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a few rain showers possible. Highs around 48 degrees. Lows near 35 degrees.
