An upcoming relocation of Montefiore Medical Group sites in the Grand Concourse and Fordham has community members concerned for their medical care.
Dynasty Charol David, a long-time patient of the family health center at One Fordham Plaza, is worried that the upcoming relocation will disrupt how those in the community get their health care.
Montefiore says they’re moving their Grand Concourse Medical Group practice to Fordham Plaza, where the family health center currently resides. A portion of the family and social medicine care will in turn move from Fordham to their Williamsbridge location.
Montefiore says they’re not closing the family health center and all services will still be offered, providing the following statement:
“This move reaffirms our commitment to ensuring our patients and community have access to the highest quality care while also ensuring our staff have access to resources and facilities to best support their needs.”
Chhaya Chhoum, executive director of Mekong NYC, a nonprofit that supports the southeast Asian community, says the Bronx can’t afford to have less clinics.
“There was no conversations with any of the people who actually live and breathe this clinic when the decision was made,” said Chhoum. “They literally came in one day and said ‘we're moving you all, this is going to happen no matter what.’"
