The first community fridge in Mott Haven was officially being introduced to the neighborhood Sunday.
It is located at the corner of 141st Street and St. Ann's Avenue and is the seventh in the Bronx.
Anyone who lives in the area can take whatever they need, with no questions asked — 24/7. It is stocked with fresh food ready to be handed out.
The fridge was put there on Sept. 24, but the ribbon-cutting was Sunday.
The fridge is chained to prevent anyone from taking it, and it's a community effort to watch over it and clean it.
It will not only serve the community but be re-stocked by the community as well.
An Instagram page was created to help raise awareness and funds to keep the fridge fully stocked.
According to the Food Bank for New York City, 50% of food pantries and soup kitchens closed due to the pandemic, and 90% are in the highest-need communities.
