Dirty diapers and empty alcohol containers are just some of the trash News 12 found walking in Richman Park.

Severino Jimenez lives down the block from the park and says this has become too familiar.

“Saturday, Sunday, Monday, nothing is coming. Today, Monday there is a smell on the street,” said Jimenez.

He says he called the city and nothing has changed.

“ We are going to get sick from the smell of trash. They have 10 days that they don’t get rid of the trash in the park,” said Jimenez.

Rafael Correa, alerted News 12 to the problem at this park.

“It is awful, you can’t stand there too long. It’s half clean today, you should see it other times how bad it is,” said Correa.

Correa says he has lived in this community for over 30 years. He says the park used to be a place he would spend his free time, but he won’t even walk his dog there now.

Crews cleaned up needles and other drug-related items in the park earlier Monday.

News 12 reached out to the Parks Department and the Department of Sanitation. DSNY said it cleaned the perimeter of the park. The Parks Department is responsible for inside the park. A spokesperson says this is the result of illegal dumping and crews are working to remove debris as soon as possible.
