Residents and commuters are calling for better lighting in Spuyten Duyvil Shorefront Park.
Commuters who have to go through the park to get to and from the nearby Metro-North station say that the high trees block natural light, making the park dark. The installation of lighting would make the area feel safer and easier to navigate, they say.
And people who walk in the area say cars have trouble seeing them near the side of the road.
The city Department of Transportation says it may need “a full replacement of the infrastructure” at the park.
"DOT and the Parks Department are currently working together to explore repair options," according to a DOT spokesperson.
