New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer says hazardous playground conditions at NYCHA complexes are a cause for serious concerns.
Last year, Stringer's office issued a report detailing NYCHA's failure to perform required inspections of its playgrounds, including broken equipment, loose mats and inadequate water drainage.
Alisha Rosado, of Melrose, takes her kids to play at the playground of her NYCHA complex, but she doesn't enjoy it. Last summer, she says her son broke his arm after tripping over a piece of a rubber mat.
She says since the incident, the playground has been fixed up. Even so, Stringer is calling on NYCHA to fix what he called potentially dangerous conditions at hundreds of playgrounds citywide.
Some residents say though their area playground on East 158th Street seemed to be in good condition, it is not clean.
NYCHA tell News 12 in a statement, "NYCHA has inspected all playgrounds and is working to make any necessary repairs. We look forward to meeting with the comptroller to provide an update on the status of our inspection program."
