Residents living in the Concourse Village say that the elevator in their apartment building has not worked for months, creating major concerns.
Tenants of 815 Gerard Ave. say the elevator has been out of service since March 19. For some of the building’s older residents like Landice, who will be turning 85 next month, having to brave four flights of stairs to leave and enter her home leaves her worried.
These concerned Bronx residents took their voices outside to denounce what they are calling empty promises from their landlord. Some showed News 12 text messages dating back to April of them asking for fixes from their landlord as well as numerous 311 complaints – but they say they’re convinced it won’t change anything.
"I think it's abusive, we don't get any answers and it's hard with the strollers, with the shopping carts, with any day errands,” said resident Arianna. “There's a lot of people here that have disabilities and they can't come up and down and get fresh air… we need answers, something has to be done.”
News 12 has reached out to the landlord of the six-story apartment building via phone call, and he says that the elevator company is set to repair the building’s elevators on May 17.
