Whether you're driving into Manhattan from New Jersey or just driving around New York City, prices are looking hefty for drivers if you enter Manhattan below 60th Street.
During peak times cars will pay $9, motorcycles $4.50 and for trucks and buses prices will be between $14.40-$21.60.
Off-peak prices will be cut significantly with cars paying $2.25, motorcycles $1.05, and trucks and buses $5.40.
There are discounts and exemptions. Some drivers can apply for a low-income tax credit that will give those who are eligible a 50% discount. Vehicles from the Central Business District Tolling Program may be exempt like emergency vehicles, school buses contracted by the DOE, and many more.
In lieu of congestion pricing the MTA has launched its Winter Weekend program similar to Summer Saturdays where monthly ticket holders can bring their friends and family on the Long Island Rail Road or Metro-North for just $1 each. It's a friendly alternative to get to where you want to go and avoid the hefty congestion pricing.
A federal judge heard a last-minute push on Friday by the state of New Jersey, which filed a lawsuit earlier this week claiming the program would cause "irreparable harm" to Jersey commuters.
On Friday, the judge declined to impose temporary restraining order that would have halted congestion pricing. MTA and New York State officials are planning to move full steam ahead with the program starting this weekend.
