Construction is underway on an overpass known for causing serious crashes.
Crews are raising the Westchester Avenue bridge over the Hutchinson River Parkway. They are trying to make it as inconvenient as possible for drivers by doing work overnight between midnight and 5 a.m. Work is not being performed on the weekends.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes on the Hutchinson River Parkway will be shut down; one travel lane will remain open for traffic.
The closures will be in effect from the East Tremont exit to the Pelham Parkway, on the ramp to the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway.
The construction was prompted after numerous accidents where trucks crash into the bridge because they are too tall.
The work is expected to be completed in May.
