Fair weather across the boroughs will bring much cooler weather, starting overnight with low temperatures dipping into the 40s for the first time since spring.

Highs on Thursday will struggle to reach 60 degrees, with a brisk northerly wind, gusting up to 25 mph. Then, a temperature rollercoaster begins, riding up from the 40s overnight to nearly 80 degrees by Saturday.

The coldest weather of the season so far arrives next Tuesday. Lows could briefly dip into the upper 30s if the colder trend continues. Highs may barely reach the 50s.

Hurricane Milton is making landfall Wednesday evening in the Sarasota area, just south of Tampa, as a major Category 3 hurricane. Gusts of 100 to 130 mph are expected along the immediate coast, with some 100 mph gusts well inland, including in Orlando, Sebring and Okeechobee.

Storm surge of up to 13 feet is forecasted between Tampa and Fort Myers. Rainfall flooding is also expected with a high risk for flash flooding along the I-4 corridor from Tampa to Daytona Beach.

The storm will quickly move off the Florida coast Thursday morning and weaken, staying over 1,000 miles south of our borough. Despite its location, its massive size and strong intensity will have an indirect impact on the forecast for the borough starting tonight.

Separate from Milton, we are keeping an eye on what could be the strongest geomagnetic storm since May. The storm is expected to reach Earth Thursday night and produce aurora (northern lights) in the sky away from light pollution.
