WATCHING THE TROPICS: There are two areas of interest in the Atlantic that have a chance of development in the next 7 days. Hurricane Rafael is a strong Cat 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. It is forecast to rapidly intensify until landfall in western Cuba today. Hurricane force winds, life threatening storm surge and destructive waves will impact the Cayman Islands, and western Cuba. Tropical storm conditions are likely over the Florida Keys through this evening. Rafael will move into the northern gulf coast this weekend. It's still too soon what potential impacts Rafael can bring to the Southeast coast. Stay tuned for updates.
