Correction officers from around New York City are expected to gather in Brooklyn today to stand with the officer who was attacked at Rikers Island.
The officer was assaulted by inmates at the prison earlier this month.
Inmates used cleaning chemicals to burn his face, according to The Daily News.
In a statement the Department of Correction said, "Commissioner Ponte has zero tolerance for assaults on staff."
