Local officials and community advocates gathered in the Bronx on Wednesday to denounce the rise in hate crimes against the Asian-American community.
Council Member Vanessa Gibson was joined by community organizations to ask New Yorkers to stand up against the racism in their neighborhoods.
"Over the last several weeks and months, we've seen far too many incidents and acts of violence and pure hatred against our brothers and sisters," Gibson said.
Rep. Ritchie Torres discussed policies he's pushing to provide crucial resources to communities that far often feel silent.
"Unites States Congress must pass legislation that requires reporting of hate crimes from every state and law enforcement agency," he said.
