Bronx Councilman Fernando Cabera protested alongside Puerto Ricans as they demanded the governor of Puerto Rico to step down.
Councilman Cabrera, who was raised in Puerto Rico, visited the island for two days, joining local leaders calling on Gov. Ricardo Rosselló to resign.

"If you're a true leader, if you're a true leader, you're going to look for the best interest of the people, and the best interest of the people right now is to have another leader," says Councilman Cabrera.

The call for Rosselló’s resignation continues to grow after he announced on Sunday he would not seek another term. He says he will step down as the president of the New Progressive Party on the island, but will not step down as governor.

Councilman Cabrera says the month-long impeachment proceedings should begin right away. He joined protesters who shut down the streets after the release of private chats showing offensive and misogynistic messages between the governor and his inner circle.
The governor has since apologized for comments he made in the chats, and has stated that he is making amends.
