Councilman James Vacca is pushing for ferry service in the northeast Bronx.
The upcoming citywide ferry will only service Soundview. Vacca says he is petitioning the Economic Development Corporation to consider adding stops in Throgs Neck and City Island.
"We in the Bronx are again going to continue to exist in a transportation desert where many of our residents are stranded ... ferry service is the answer for most of those people," says Vacca.
The EDC has told News 12 that it chose Soundview because of the best possible combination of ridership demand, connection to other transit options and easy accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. It said there might be room for expansion after the initial ferry rollout starts next year.
