Councilwoman backs senior homelessness prevention program
A Bronx councilwoman is backing the city's senior homelessness prevention program at risk of losing funding.
Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, a Democrat from the Bronx, says she is backing the BronxWorks program.
The program is intended to help low-income seniors pay their rent, medications and medical bills in an effort to keep them from losing everything.
Gibson says she wants to champion the program when working with other lawmakers on the budget.
Private funding for the program is due to run out on June 30 unless it receives $250,000.
