A Country Club convent is in the process of being sold and is proposed to be a four-story building.

News 12 was told the Sisters Servants of Mary convent closed a few years ago, but residents in the area have concerns of the new proposal.

"This is a residential area, I don't understand how they could put so many apartments and go up four stories," says Anna.

News 12 reached out to the Department of Buildings and got the following statement:

"DOB recently received a job application for a new, 4-story building with 82 dwelling units at 3305 Country Club Road, the Bronx. This application is currently under plan examiner review and has not yet been permitted or approved. DOB does not have any applications submitted for the demolition of the existing building at the property."

Anna says although plans are not finalized, this hits close to home for her tight-knit community.

"It's more about ruining the neighborhood," said Anna.

She isn't the only one raising concerns. Principal Mastropietro at Villa Maria Academy in Country Club says the proposed development is not what this community needs.

"The Villa Maria Academy community is committed to fostering a positive relationship with whomever purchases the property, and we expect the same in return. We believe that this proposed development is incompatible with the character of our neighborhood. We are especially concerned that the project's scale will impact traffic, sanitation, and safety, and will strain our existing infrastructure. The safety and security of our children and families at Villa Maria Academy is our top priority, and we urge decision-makers to consider these critical issues," says Mastropietro.

News 12 reached out to the convent, as well as the realty group shown as the new property owner, according to the city's Automated City Register Information System but has not heard back yet.
