Court case for defendants in Throggs Neck fight moves closer to grand jury action

Two men accused in a deadly fight in Throggs Neck were back in Bronx Criminal Court on Friday. Omar Lamoni and his half-brother Edwin Nina are charged in connection with the death of Kristopher Samaroo, who died following a violent altercation at their shared home on the Throggs Neck Expressway.
During the hearing, Judge Linda Poust Lopez reviewed orders of protection for Samaroo's fiancée, Brittney Shears. Despite Nina living in the same two-family home as Shears, the judge ruled he could remain there under strict conditions: no contact or communication with Shears.
"We were the victims," Shears said outside the courtroom, denying the defense's claims that she and Samaroo were the aggressors.
Shears described the night of the incident as chaotic and violent, with multiple altercations.

"There were witnesses—innocent bystanders. I would stop them, bang on their windows, and ask them to call the police because he kept coming after us, even after Kristopher told him, 'I'm done. You got it,'" she recounted.
Shears said she sustained injuries to her back and head during the fight, adding to the trauma of losing her fiancé.
The defense has argued that Samaroo’s death could have been caused by an underlying health condition, though the medical examiner has not yet released the official cause of death.
Shears says the family is focused on mourning and honoring Samaroo’s memory.
A vigil will be held this weekend at Ferry Point Park, and a private funeral is scheduled for Tuesday.
"Anyone who met Kristopher, loved Kristopher, had a conversation with him, or just wants to lend support, please come out," she said.
Lamoni and Nina are due back in court on Dec. 20 for grand jury action.
