The city and the state are taking significant steps as the numbers around the coronavirus pandemic continue to trend downward.
Vaccination sites having enough vaccines in stock and accepting walk-ins are some of the reasons that COVID numbers continue going down as restrictions continue to be lifted around the city.
Officials, however, continue to target New Yorkers in the 18- to 24-year-old range, which is the only group of adults in the city where under less than 50% have received at least one shot.
Mayor Bill de Blasio continues to push incentives for getting vaccinated, like Governor's Ball passes and stays at city hotels. He emphasizes that the more people get vaccinated, the better the next few months will be.
"It's simple. Get vaccinated. If you get vaccinated, all other things are possible. It's really clear, if you want this amazing summer. One, get vaccinated. Two, Summer of New York City. It's going to be amazing," de Blasio says.
Meantime, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says just eight people in the state of New York died from COVID on Monday. None of them from the five boroughs.
The seven-day average positivity rate for the state is 0.65%, a new low.
The seven-day average positivity rate for every region is under 1.5%, which marks the first time that that's happened since September.
Nearly two thirds, 65.3% of all New Yorkers over the age of 18 have received at least one vaccine dose.
In New York City, which was the epicenter of the pandemic for so long, that number is even lower, which includes 0.65% in the Bronx and 0.50% in Brooklyn.
Like the city, the state is also offering vaccine incentives like full scholarships to CUNY and SUNY colleges, and lotto tickets worth up to $5 million.
