The pandemic has delayed justice in the court system.
With a mounting number of backlogged cases, a decision to cut judges could make the situation even worse.
There are more than 29,000 backlogged cases in the Bronx Supreme Court - Civil Term alone, according to the Office of Court Administration.The Bronx is slated to lose eight state Supreme Court justices because of budget issues.
A total of 46 judges across the state are now fighting to stay on the bench.
The state's decision to force judges into retirement is causing a legal firestorm as it prepares to deal with more cases and less judges.
