The Crown Heights community rallied Saturday in an effort to save a local supermarket set to close next week.
The Associated Supermarket at 975 Nostrand Ave. will reopen once a new development is finished. Neighbors, however, say construction can take at least two years and they are concerned about where they will shop in the meantime.
The supermarket has been a staple in the community for over 50 years. The store struck a deal earlier this month with Midwood Investment and Development to occupy the space on the first floor of the new development.
Midwood Investment and Development tells News 12 the planned project will preserve the grocery store and provide a larger, state-of-the-art space as well as affordable housing.
