Restaurants across the city are still coping with orders that disallow dine-in services, but one Crown Heights business found a way to continue interacting with customers.
Tamra Teahouse typically serves up Asian fusion dishes, but in late March, owner Yunha Moh decided to close temporarily for the sake of sales.
"I found that we weren't making enough… for it to be worth it," says Moh.
The Crown Heights resident couldn't sit idly by, so he decided to do one-on-one virtual cooking lessons with a twist.
"Quarantine cooking lessons where I'll show them how to make a meal with just what they have in their kitchen," says Moh. "They don't have to go out and get more ingredients, and so I would have them send me a picture of their fridge and pantry."
It costs just $20 per hour for each session. The business owner also plans to start offering recipes from some dishes he serves at the Bergen Street restaurant -- except for his vegan mac sauce, which he says he'll never give away.
Moh says the offerings have been a chance to bond with some of his regular customers.
