Hundreds of people came together in solidarity in Fairfield Wednesday night to raise money for two charities that will go directly to help the people of Ukraine.
The sold-out event featured Ukrainian food, music and tradition dancing with the dual purpose of raising funds and teaching people about Ukrainian culture.
The Fairfield Stands with Ukraine event also featured dozens of raffles that included traditional Ukrainian items.
Organizers say they are so impressed and feel endless support from the community. They say their loved ones in Ukraine are shocked that people in Fairfield are supporting them. They believe the fundraiser event is an important way to show why preserving their culture is so important.
"In light of the Russian invasion, it's bringing us back to darker times where Ukraine was subjugated under Soviet Union and where Ukrainian freedom was suppressed and Ukrainian language and culture were basically outlawed," said organizer Taisa Skubiak. "So in times like this, we really need to highlight the positives and beauty of Ukraine and its people."
