A big gift is coming to the schools of the City University of New York - $75 million to be exact!
This funding is going to add 25 new faculty positions and a master's program in computational science to CUNY schools. It is the university's largest-ever donation.
CUNY chancellor Felix Matos Rodriguez was joined by the president of the Simons Foundation to announce that $75 million investment. Part of that investment will also go to support CUNY’s involvement in the governor’s proposed “Empire AI Project”.
Officials with CUNY say that the funding comes at the right time as the rise of artificial intelligence is pushing computational science to the forefront. CUNY projects 300,000 jobs will become available in the growing field over the next decade.
