Cuomo signs bill increasing NYC school zone speed cameras
A bill signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Sunday aims to crack down on drivers speeding through school zones by adding more speeding cameras in the city.
The city will increase the number of speed cameras in school zones from 140 to 750.
Cuomo says fatalities in school zones have decreased by 55% since the first round of cameras were installed.
"Something as simple as walking to and from school can be the most dangerous part of the day, especially in this city with this complexity," says Cuomo
The law previously prevented drivers from speeding during school hours. The new law will ban speeding in school zones from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The new cameras will be placed in areas where the most crashes have occurred.
