The day before Thanksgiving, people are running around grabbing those last-minute items for their holiday meal, which includes dessert! News 12 paid a visit to Gino's Pastry Shop in the Bronx where pumpkin pies are all the rage.
A visit to the Cannoli King at Gino's Pastry Shop is tradition for some customers.
For most people, Thanksgiving meal planning is done but last-minute trips to grab the sweetest part of the meal are happening the day before.
For customer Patrick Forcello, a trip to Little Italy for dessert is a must.
"I'm going to get some cannolis and we are going to get some pastries and a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving," Patrick says.
Gino's pumpkin pies are the real deal - no canned ingredients are included in these sweets.
"It's all fresh pumpkin. It's literally a three-day process. We order the pumpkin, we have to dice it then we have to cook it, then puree it," explains Jerome Raguso, owner of Gino's Pastry Shop.
What's even sweeter than that for Raguso is getting to see customers after a year socially distanced.
"Especially this year - seeing the old faces that we haven't seen in over a year, that's a lot to be thankful for."
