The Bronx and Brooklyn are both under a flood watch through Wednesday morning - but what does that mean for commuters and residents?
In the Bronx, flash flood warnings were issued at 5 p.m. Tuesday as dangerous flooding conditions developed. Flooding will continue to be a threat into Wednesday morning.
Showers and downpours in Brooklyn are increasing throughout the evening, along with the growing threat of flash floods. While the worst of the flooding rain has avoided Brooklyn, the heavy rainfall could reduce visibility and impact roadways.
Once these flooding downpours depart late tonight, the focus will be on clearing the roads and drains for the Wednesday morning commute. Expect lingering flooding, especially for early risers. Plan on extra time for the morning commute, even if there isn't heavy rain falling.
Most of Wednesday will be cloudy and misty, but more importantly it will be significantly colder. Temperatures will be in the 60s most of the day, so don't forget to bring the sweaters to and from work.
Then, all eyes turn to Friday and Saturday as the remnants of Hurricane Debby make their closest approach. Debby has been trending inward, which is good news for the tri-state region because there will be less flooding.
The further west the storm tracks, the lower the flood threat. There will still be scattered downpours and some flooding, but with a farther west track, widespread flooding would not be over the city, instead over Western New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
