The nurses’ strike in New York City continued into Day 26 as negotiations between hospitals and the New York State Nurses Association remained ongoing, with no agreement yet.

Nurses say their focus remains on patient safety, including staffing ratios in emergency rooms, hospital floors, and intensive care units, along with protections against workplace violence. Registered nurse Caroline Johnson says those issues were central to discussions at the negotiating table.
As negotiations continued, nurses held a day of action, joined by labor and community groups outside Mount Sinai Hospital and later at the League of Voluntary Hospitals. Thirteen nurses were arrested during an act of civil disobedience and were released later that day.
Union leaders say nearly 15,000 nurses remain on strike citywide and will continue until contracts are settled that address staffing and safety concerns.
For now, nurses say they will remain on the picket line, calling for changes they believe are critical to patient care.
